In-Land Water Safety

In-Land Water SafetySpending time at the lake or on the river can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the summer, creating memories of a lifetime, but safety has to be your number one concern. Before getting in the water to swim, paddle or boat, you have to know what is below the surface. Check with the locals for tips and unknown hazards before entering for the first time, as they can share local knowledge and tips for a safe outing. Be ware of currents and undertows while swimming, paddling, boating or even walking in the water, as they can be much stronger than they appear. Cold water in glacier fed lakes can be lethal, as it's much colder below the surface than you think. The in-land waterways of BC are stunning and inviting, enjoy them safely this summer.

All Terrain Vehicles

ATV's are used for work and play, but it doesn't matter what you use them for, you need to use them wisely! Make sure the driver is old enough to operate the vehicle safely and is able to maneuver around obstacles maintaining control at all times. Proper equipment is essential; helmets should be sport specific and fit properly, footwear is critical in securing your position while driving and bright safety vests are beneficial at all times. Once you have completed an ATV safety-training course, planned your trip and packed your essential emergency kit, you're ready to hit the trails!

Hydration

"Water is a biological necessity. It is not an 'option'."

HydrationUnder normal circumstances, a person can survive for only 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food. Sometimes a trip can last much longer than anticipated, and having enough water can make the difference between an extended stay or a survival situation. Outdoor activities require energy, and having enough water & food can give us the boost we need to get out of an unplanned situation. Carry at least 1 litre of 'extra' water per person for your adventures this summer and don't forget the other 9 essential items incase of emergencies!
